Thanks so much, guys.
Thank you for sticking around.
Thank you for getting here early.
Love you all.
[ Cheers and applause ] We just wanted to put on more of a show as we went along, you know.
And I think that when Alex, especially, came into the fold, we realized we could put on a show.
We do a lot of thinking about how songs blend into each other.
That was not a thing that we thought about back in the early days.
We think about how the lights affect, you know, the mood of the audience, and you know, Christian, who's our lighting guy can, you know, hit a button and say, "Okay, I'm going to make them scream now."
And he hits the button, and then they scream.
-That's true.
100% true.
-You know, that's just something that we didn't think about.
Well, guess we didn't have a lighting guy back then.
We were pretty bare-bones when we first played here in 2002.
Because the last record was made -- a lot of it was made in the studio, the creative parts happened in the studio, then, when we went and actually toured those songs, the songs developed.
And we realized that the songs got stronger when we actually played them live, right?
So we went and played a TV show, played "I Ain't the One," and thought, "Wow, I wish we had recorded the song that way on the record 'cause it's better now."
So the idea, the concept behind this record, was to hash all that out ahead of time and get the songs in this state before you start recording them.
So you're not later realizing, okay, there's a better version of the record, a better version of this song or that song.
And, yeah, that was the initial concept.
We all decided to come to Austin.
I moved back to Austin.
He moved to Austin for a bit.
And we all just kind of lived in Austin for a bit and, you know, went out and saw a lot of shows, ate a lot of Mexican food, drank a lot of margaritas, and that was the concept, you know.
Have fun and make songs and make a record.
Then the pandemic hit.
